Welcome To “Dickens of A Christmas”

Are you in the Holiday mood? Filled with the Spirit of Christmas? BA- Humbug!!! Well if you haven’t caught the Holiday fever yet, let me invite you to “A Dickens of A Christmas”! A family-friendly event brought to you by The City of Spartanburg that is sure to put you in the Christmas mood. Filled with Music, Hot Cocoa, Caroling, and a whole lot of vendors for doing some Christmas shopping. This is our 3rd year attending and we are proud to say, that we haven’t been disappointed yet!

The event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 6-9 with Carolers and street performers, such as Artisans and Live Statues, displaying a wide arrange of talents. And you might even meet Charles Dickens himself! An enchanting affair with many people dressed in Victorian Age costumes selling their wares and singing Christmas Carols. There will be Victorian crafts for kids, and Letters to Santa, plus they have a chance to talk and take pictures with Ol’St. Nick, because he will be out checking on who has been Naughty or Nice (this includes you too mom and dad!!).

If you have a taste for Holiday treats, there will be Several places for food and drinks including Gluehwein German mulled wine. I enjoyed the Hot Cocoa and BBQ Sliders they had last year and will be looking for them again this year! While you are snacking on those sliders and hot Cocoa (or craft-beer!) you can check out the various “living Window Displays” held in several of the windows of the downtown shops.

Head on down to Denny’s Plaza for the Tree Lighting Ceremony happening at 7:30 and while you are there check out the Christmas Market. There you will find handmade crafts like “Once-upon-a-Bracelets” from Designs By Melissa (she might even help you design a custom bracelet of your own!), Candle Makers, Scentsy, and other items you might not find any other time of the year!

Among the many Artisan Demonstrations such as the living Statues and live Window Displays, there will also be a Live Nativity Scene! What a Merry Occasion for all, to put you in that Christmas spirit! This will be our 3rd year attending but, it will be the first year that I am also setting up to do a display of my work and I don’t mind telling you that I am one nervous guy to be working among all of the amazing talents that will be out there. I really enjoyed the event as a spectator the last 2 years, and I’m looking forward to meeting and greeting, even more, this year. It is truly one of our favorite events of the year to be at.  Melissa starts preparing around January gathering supplies like charms, glass beads, wire, and she even stalks the stores for goodies that others might have overlooked (believe me I know, because she drags me along also!!) to start putting together new items for the next “Dickens of A Christmas”! I really encourage you to come out and check out all of the things going on, I am sure that you will not be disappointed.
